The SIL viscometers require about 35ml of sample which is overfilled into the reservoir, with the excess suctioned away after thermal equilibration to leave a constant automatic level remaining. The sample is suctioned or pressured upward and the meniscus timed as it descends past two timing marks. The time (in seconds) is multiplied by the Constant of the tube used (supplied with permanent serial number and certificate) to determine the viscosity of the sample. The timing may be repeated as often as necessary to confirm constant value.
