Houillon viscometers are typically used where many samples are to be checked, and accuracy need not be precise. Samples are applied to the upper cup in volumes specified for each size, and the meniscus is timed as it flows past a lower bulb. Typically, a time – measuring device is provided on the Houillon instrument which measures the time of flow past two 25mm points equidistant from the center of the bulb. If a timing head is not available, RAMIN’ can supply the Houillon viscometers to be used in a normal bath at controlled temperatures, timed manually as sample flows through the bulb and between marks 25mm apart.
