Standard Specifications and Operating Instructions for Glass Capillary Kinematic Viscometer
Cannon-Fenske Routine Viscometer For Transparent Liquds ASTM D446 and ISO 3105
This is the most widely used type of glass capillary viscometer for measurements of fluids with Newtonian flow behavior as described in ASTM D445 and D446. Approximately 7ml of sample is required to fill the tube. To fill, the tube is inverted, and sample is suctioned into the double bulb section to the final timing mark. After tube is returned to upright position and sample has descended into the reservoir, the unit is equilibrated in bath at 40° C for 15-20 minutes. Viscosity of the sample is determined by pressuring the sample upward, timing the flow between timing marks on descent, and multiplying this time (in seconds) by the Constant of that specific viscometer. Successive timings may be done to confirm accuracy of the timing. Each viscometer has a permanent serial number and is supplied with a calibration certificate indicating the Constant of that tube at 40° C and 100° C.
Bath depth required: 8”
Ask us about our new Reference Fuel Blending Systems designed for ASTM Methods D613, D2699, D2700
- Vacuum operated for safety and easy filling of four or six burettes (200 or 400 ml)
- Designed to quickly pump fuel standards from remote drums into buretts for blending
- Vacuum trap bottles inside cabinet catch overflows and protect pump from contact with fuels, and allow excess fuel to be reclaimed
